Whoohoo! I have been offered the chance to exhibit my latest work as part of a public exhibition in Sweden! This is a little surreal for me because I've only had one public showing and that took place in a tiny space down the end of my road in Southsea, now my second will be taking place overseas. The exhibition is being held to support the charity ROKS [link] which has established many women and children's shelters throughout Sweden, so I'm also happy to be supporting such a good cause.

The 'Interpersonally Happy' exhibition will consist of "art portraying the beauty and challenge of human relations" within the mediums of fine art, photography and literature.

The work I'll be submitting will be the 'Inexplicable' images that I've been uploading here. I really wanted to find an excuse to pursue these for a major final piece at uni next year, but it's not worked out well as the proposal I made wasn't finished until 8am on the deadline day and so it was total garbage =(. Instead it'll be pursuing my more Gerhard Richter-inspired work and trying to politically contextualise it. Anyhoo, doesn't matter, got opportunity =D.

Thanks to Jonas Ahlberg for the chance to participate in Interpersonally Happy — if you're not familiar with his work, I seriously suggest checking out: [link] — in fact, I demand that you do.

In more petty yet frustrating news, DA now allows people to change their usernames... But only if you have the money to pay for a premium account.

Seriously DA, what the hell?

Also, I FINISHED MY SECOND YEAR AT UNIVERSITY! Now to wait and see if I passed everything...

i'm a student of BA photography at the university of portsmouth in my second year (been studying there nearly three years as i did art and design foundation), and i love experimenting with the camera as a painterly medium rather than just something to point and shoot — i've never seen the point in only trying to give people what's right before their eyes. abstract art's always taken my interest above all else, like richter, pollock, de kooning, rodchenko, siskind and so on. i do also shoot documentary as i'm a student activist, but none of that stuff's on here because i can't help but separate it from my ‘fine art’ work. my documentary stuff does often take some influence from abstract artists that i've looked at over the years however. as for the stuff in my gallery, it's all very experimental. i'd like to continue my slow exposure technique with models more as i've only done it once, and we've got a unit on the body coming up at uni after christmas, so fingers crossed that i pass this semester to do it (it's not looking good).

how about you?
